Originally the diary of 4 months spent in Antarctica working as a documentary film sound recordist, this blog has evolved into an online repository for the thoughts, travels and trivia of the writer Richard Fleming. For McMurdo Station, Antarctica, and polar exploration, see August through December of '06. Currently you are likely to find in these pages chronicles of my actual and literary meanderings, as well as notes on my many other passions. Also, did I mention I wrote a book?

I like to think this sort of thing runs in the family
My sister, the mother of my three delightful nieces, who is too busy kicking much ass, writing books, and cashing fat checks to allow her the time for her own blog, today gets much deserved recognition in these pages as the 2008 Runciman Award winner. That is an award for best book of the year, by the way. Here she is, collecting another of those checks.
Martin Hammond, chairman of the awards panel, called the book "a beautifully written and cumulatively moving account." Congratulations, hermana mia!

Which sort of thing? Being a mensch (KEF is certainly that), a babe (that too), or a dame (ditto)?
That little family member in front would seem to be following in her mother's steps for sure.
Meanwhile, the rest of us just eat our hearts out
Wow I see only great things for the youngest to live up to. Has her oldest child joined the writers crowd in your family? I had asked her if she was going to write about how to live with that many writers. Still want to go kayaking.
Congratulations!
Yes, it runs in the family...but only through the female line.
Dear parenting for adults...
A canoe trip might be possible this summer! As well as a Klepper retrieval mission. There is going to be some driving between NY and North Carolina. We will try to coordinate...
